Pet Travel Abroad

Transporting your pet to Europe

If, like me, you wouldn’t want to travel without your pet – don’t worry – you don’t need to!  Whether you’re going on holiday, moving countries – or perhaps you’re bringing a new pet home from abroad we can help.

Making use of the train tunnel via Folkestone to Calais we are able to transport your pet with ease.  Please note, Eurostar will not take pets, so we use the shuttle and find that it is quicker and less stressful for pets than the ferry.  We will collect your pets from anywhere in the UK in our pet friendly taxi and can go short or long distances.

*If it is a requirement that your pet is transported by ferry, we can offer this service – however please be aware that the pet has to stay in the vehicle on the car deck and so we would not be able to stay with them for the whole trip as we would prefer to do.  This is one of the main reasons we choose not to transport animals via the ferry routes.

Transporting Dogs

We can transport up to 3 dogs at a time.  We only ever carry pets from 1 family at a time.  Our DEFRA approved vehicle has purpose fitted crates with comfortable bedding.  Water is available at all times throughout the journey and we take regular breaks so the dog/s can stretch their legs and go to the toilet.  See our FAQ section below for answers to commonly asked questions, or give us a call to chat through any concerns you have.

Transporting Cats

Cats are nearly always nervous travellers and we take this into account.   We only ever carry pets from 1 family at a time. We only ever transport up to 3 cats at a time.   Our purpose built cat cages have comfortable bedding.  Water is available at all times throughout the journey as is a litter tray.  For your absolute peace of mind, our vehicles are all DEFRA approved.  See our FAQ section below for answers to commonly asked questions, or give us a call to chat through any concerns you have.FAQ’s

Q.   What will my pet need to be able to travel?

A.   Your pet will need the following to be able to travel:

  • ISO Standard Microchip (Your pet must be microchipped before it’s vaccinated against rabies. The vaccination won’t count for travel if your pet isn’t microchipped first)
  • Rabies Vaccine – EU and listed countries
  • Rabies Vaccine and blood test – Unlisted countries
  • Tapeworm -This applies to dogs only before entering the UK
  • UK or EU issued Pet Passport (New style if issued after 29th Dec 2014)
  • Third Country Official Certificate – if entering the EU or UK from a listed or an unlisted non-EU Country
  • Declaration – Confirming non-sale or transfer of ownership

Q.   What do I need to provide for my pet for the journey?

A.   A favourite toy and/or blanket is always a good idea to calm them during the journey.  If their journey will go over a meal time, you will need to provide them with some food.  Any necessary paperwork (see question above).

Q.  How far in advance do I need to book travel?

A.   It’s good to get as much notice as possible as this brings down the price of any Euro Tunnel tickets however, assuming we have space, we can arrange travel with just 24 hours notice.

Q.   My dog is really nervous / anxious – will you still let them travel?

A.   We are experienced at working with animals of all temperaments so don’t worry.  We’ll ensure they’re fine, give us a call to talk through your concerns.

Q.   Should I feed my pet before travel?

A.   Neither dogs, nor cats tend to be great in a car with a belly full of food.  We recommend not feeding them for for at least 2 hours before travelling.  If your pet will then be travelling over a meal time we will be sure to allow time to stop so they can be fed.

Q.   What if it’s an especially hot or cold day?

A.   Our vehicles are carefully temperature controlled to ensure your pet is comfortable at all times.

Q.   Will my pet be left on their own at any time?

A.   Your pet will be attended 100% of the time and never left on their own  *However if you require your pet to be transported via a ferry route we are not able to be with them during the ferry journey.  We prefer not to use ferries for this reason.

Q.   Can I travel with my pet?

A.   Absolutely.  We are fully licenced to transport both animals and human passengers.  Get in touch to let us know what you need and we will provide you with a bespoke quote.
